Unusual sculptures from around the world that seem to live their lives
Cities of many countries around the world are decorated with dozens or even hundreds of various street statues made of equally diverse materials. Some of them play the role of a monument and tell us about any person or event, others simply decorate the street, and still others can be called real works of art, in which the artist laid a special meaning. Next, we tried to choose such unusual sculptures from different cities of the world that surprise with their realism, dynamics, and can tell the audience a story.
"The Hearts of the Trees", Yorkshire, UK
In Yorkshire, there is a whole theme park, where the most unusual sculptures of the world can be seen everywhere. But one of the most memorable are the sculptures of people who sit on the grass, knees tucked in, and embrace living cherry trees.Their author is the Spanish artist Jaume Plensa, who gave the statues self-portrait features.
Trees are central to this sculptural composition, as a fundamental image from the philosophy of alchemists. “I suggested that you can create beauty out of nothing; go beyond matter itself, ”says Plensa.
Mustangs, Las Colinas, USA
These unusual sculptures are nine bronze mustangs, jumping on the water. The composition was established in the city of Las Colinas, Texas, back in 1984; It is considered one of the largest sculptures in the world with the image of horses, and was created by wildlife sculptor Robert Glen. Thanks to the fountains, beating out from under the hoofs of horses and imitating a splash of water, it seems that unusual statues really will be torn off.
By the way, it was not for nothing that the mustang was chosen as an object of sculpture - these strong horses personify the strength and strength of the spirit, the pressure and power with which the state was formed in the past years.
“Monument to strangers”, Wroclaw, Poland
But what amazing and unusual sculptures can be found right in the middle of Wroclaw. They were installed on one of the pedestrian crossings in 2005: on one side of the street, we see how the figures of a group of people sink into the ground, and on the other - go to the surface. These amazing statues are a monument that sends us back to December 1981 in Poland. At that time, military rule was introduced in the country, accompanied by repression, the death of dozens and the imprisonment of thousands of people. And the only opposition to the regime was an underground organization and its supporters, who are personified by these unusual figures.

Svoboda, Philadelphia, USA
There are unusual sculptures in Philadelphia, but the most notable among them is the creation of sculptor Zenos Frudakis. The composition is a wall divided into four parts: these are either the stages by which the sculptor demonstrates how a person emerges from the wall, or the simultaneous depiction of four people, among whom only one has managed to escape to freedom.
The first figure is firmly pressed into the wall, like a mummy, but the next ones are already starting to move in order to finally break free with their arms spread wide and their faces happy. At the same time, the viewer can see that there are still dozens of immured people in the walls: some of their faces, bodies and individual limbs are visible. The freedom that the author demonstrates with the help of this sculpture may be different for everyone: freedom from frames and stereotypes, from unloved work, depression - and this freedom is not possible without a fight.
"First Generation", Singapore
And the last composition that we decided to include in the most unusual sculptures of the world, striking in its dynamics and realism, were the five bronze boys, installed in one of the most popular areas of Singapore. The boys play by the river: two of them are already jumping into the water, the others are sitting side by side and having fun, intending to join the first brave men. The statue is part of the “People of the River” series of sculptures, which was created by sculptor Chong Fa Chong - he wanted to demonstrate the natural conditions in which children once played and how clean their children's joy was.
