Saint Eugene - Roman martyr

Saint Eugenewas a Roman woman, lived in Alexandria, where they sent her father Philip to the position of emperor, governor of Egypt. The girl received a good education, had a good character, was beautiful. Noble young men dreamed of getting her hands, but Eugene did not even think about marriage.

She secretly acquainted herself with the epistles of the Apostle Paul and became a zealous Christian. Once, secretly from their parents, dressed in men's clothes, together with the slaves Prot and Iakinf went to the monastery. Together with slaves and companions, she received holy baptism from Bishop Elia, who had a vision of a girl, and he blessed her to live in a monastery under the name of the monk Yevgeny.

Saint Eugene - Roman martyrSaint Eugenia received the gift of healing. Somehow Melania, a young, wealthy widow, turned to her for help. Seeing a beautiful young monk in a girl, she kindled to him a sinful passion. Remaining rejected, the widow gave Evgeny slander and she had to be brought to trial before the ruler of Egypt, who was her father. The girl had to open her secret.

Relatives rejoiced when they saw the one that had long been considered dead. After some time, they, inspired by the act of the daughter, were baptized. But Philip had to leave the post of ruler. However, the Christians of Alexandria asked him to become their bishop.

Saint Eugenia lost her father, who died a martyr's death. The new ruler did not dare to openly judge Philip, and sent murderers to him secretly. The villains inflicted numerous knife wounds on the bishop. His wife, Claudia, widowed, with her daughter and servants went to the estate, located in the vicinity of Rome. There Evgenia continued her monastic feat.

Many girls led her to the Christian faith. Her mother arranged a hospice and served widows. After some time, the emperor Gallien began the persecution of Christians. One Roman woman from the royal family named Vasilla heard about Claudia and Eugenia and wanted to accept such a life as they did. But her fiance, having learned that the bride had become a Christian, reported on this to the emperor.

At first she was brought to the temple of Diana to worship idols, but at the same time he collapsed, then the girl was thrown into the river with a stone around her neck, but with God's help the stone fell away. When they threw the martyr into the ditch and held her there for ten days, the Lord himself appeared to the girl and said that she would soon be honored with the Kingdom of Heaven. And so it happened - Eugene was beheaded with a sword. After some time, her mother Claudia accepted a martyr's demise. She was informed about the imminent death in a vision by a daughter.
