2.5 years after the premiere of the prototype Porsche 918 Spyder, the Germans rolled out the production version of their flagship model at the Frankfurt show booth. This is the most powerful, fastest and technically perfect Porsche in the entire history of the legendary brand!

The appearance of the Porsche 918 Spyder has long been no secret - the production version is not much different from the previously demonstrated concept car, the model is based on a tough and durable carbon fiber monocoque and subframes of the same material. The roof consists of two removable halves (they are also made of carbon fiber), which can be removed in a 100-liter trunk. Front suspension - double wishbone, rear - multi-link. Porsche 918 Spyder can be called the reincarnation of the previous flagship, the roadster Carrera GT. But if he was equipped with a high-speed atmospheric V10, then the heart of the "918th" is a hybrid power plant, which in total has as many as three engines!

The main one is, of course, the 4.6-liter gasoline V8, created using the Porsche RS Spyder racing technology category LMP2 (Porsche used it at the stages of ALMS and LMS). V8 with a dry sump lubrication system develops 608 “horses” at 8700 rpm, and the maximum crankshaft rotational speed reaches 9150 rpm! He drives the rear wheels through a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox. Two more are electromotors, and one of them is intended for the front axle. Yes, the Porsche 918 Spyder is an all-wheel drive supercar! True, only up to 235 km / h - then it becomes rear-wheel drive.

The total power of the power plant - 887 horsepower, maximum torque - 917-1280 N ∙ m, depending on the transmission. Acceleration to “hundreds” takes 2.8 seconds, but other dynamic indicators are much more impressive: from a spot up to 200 km / h, the Porsche 918 Spyder accelerates in 7.7 seconds, and up to 300 km / h in just 22 seconds! The top speed is 345 km / h. The average consumption of gasoline is only 3.0-3.3 l / 100 km in the combined cycle. Of course, with very different modes of movement.

Despite the presence of electric motors and batteries, the Porsche 918 Spyder was not very heavy - its dry weight is 1634 kg.This achievement is not only carbon-fiber bearing elements, but also carbon-ceramic brakes (disc diameter - 410 mm front and 390 mm rear), and ultra-light magnesium alloy discs (20-inch front and 21-inch rear). True, such wheels are included in the optional Weiss package, which also includes additional aerodynamic elements, six-point seat belts, and the buyer may even refuse to refinish the film and thereby ease the car a little more.

Of course, the Porsche 918 Spyder received a fully-controlled chassis, the principle of operation of which is identical to the systems on the 911 GT3 and 911 Turbo / Turbo S - the rear wheels turn either in the opposite front direction (at speeds up to 50 km / h, improving maneuverability) or in the same ( at high speeds, the car becomes more stable). Tires - the newest Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 with a specially selected composition for the Porsche. Plus, adaptive shock absorbers PASM and active aerodynamic elements PAA, the algorithm of which varies depending on the selected driving mode. And this is worth telling in detail.

The most “green” mode is E-Power. With a sufficient level of battery charge, it is activated by default, and Porsche rides solely on electric.The lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 6.8 kW ∙ h provides a range of 16 to 31 km, the maximum speed is reduced to 150 km / h, and acceleration to a hundred increases to almost 7 seconds. It takes 4 hours to fully charge the batteries, but using the optional DC station, this time can be reduced to 25 minutes.

When the battery drops, the Porsche switches to Hybrid mode, when the internal combustion engine and electric motors alternately operate - this is also one of the most economical options. PAA, when choosing E-Power or Hybrid, retracts the rear wing, shutters in the bottom close, directing a part of the air flow into the diffuser, and adjustable holes under the headlights (to reduce drag).

Algorithm Sport-Hybrid is more interesting - electric motors help the main engine (the so-called Boost function), and PAA does everything to achieve maximum speed - an additional spoiler remains raised, but the angle of attack of the rear wing decreases. Holes under the headlights while open for the sake of better cooling of the power plant. And to set records on the race tracks are other modes. In the Race-Hybrid, the gearbox goes into sport mode, the electromotors briefly give out increased power, and the batteries are charged more intensively.Thus, the Porsche 918 Spyder remains as fast as possible for several laps.

And if you need to set the best time on a single lap? Then you need to choose Hot-Lap - the power plant will squeeze all the juice from the internal combustion engine and empty the battery. The rear wing in the Race-Hybrid and Hot-Lap extends to the maximum angle of attack and increases downforce on the rear axle. The flaps in the bottom open, the air is sent to the diffuser and creates a semblance of the "ground effect". How fast is the Porsche 918 Spyder on the Nürburgring North Loop? The prototype last year went round in 7 minutes 14 seconds. But the serial version ran through Nordsleife in 6 minutes 57 seconds, which is 31 seconds (!) Better than the achievement of the Porsche Carrera GT! What will answer the main competitors of the "918th" - coupe McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari? The price of a masterpiece from Porsche is appropriate - in Russia, for the flagship supercar, you will have to pay an amount equivalent to 991 thousand euros. 918 Spyders are delivered exclusively to order and only with prepayment - 918 copies will be produced in total.
