Sweden is proud of its contribution to world pop music. This small country became the birthplace of several famous musicians of the second half of the 20th century. But, of course, the main treasure is the famous ABBA four.
So, as you remember, the ABBA band consists of four musicians: Agnette, Frida, Björn and Benny. In the 70s, they were united not only by creativity, but also by romantic relationships: Bjorn and Agneta were married, and Benny and Frida lived together.
Agneta Åse Feltskog (Agnetha Åse Fältskog) was born on April 5, 1950 in Jönköping. Up to five years behaved decently. At the age of five she got out of hand when she saw a piano at the neighbors. Having discovered this wonderful instrument, I disappeared for days at the aforementioned neighbors, exploiting the piano, instead of digging in the sandbox like all normal children. At the same age, she made a public statement about her desire to become famous (her goal was to appear on TV) and wrote her first hit called “Två små troll”. When Agneta was 7 years old, the parents, having regretted the child (or neighbors :-)), bought her a piano.
Agneta went to school. And even there she studied. Sometimes.Mainly in literature, Swedish, English, German and, of course, music lessons. With the natural sciences it was worse.
When she was 14 years old, the music teacher refused her. But not because Agneta was completely incompetent, on the contrary, the teacher felt that she could not give anything to this brilliant child.
Agneta's organizational skills manifested themselves quite early: when she was still at school, she had knocked down a group along with two friends. The girls were called "The Cambers" and sang at Christmas and other parties and similar events. The group's repertoire was supplied by Agneta herself.
At the age of 15, our heroine decided that learning was enough, and she left school, in general, with rather good results. Around the same year, Agneta suffered an unhappy love (as it usually happens at that age), which resulted in the birth of "Jag var så kär", which subsequently took off to the top of the charts.
She got a job in a car company, but do not think that this was the end of her creative career. Opposite! Once Agneta heard that a certain ensemble was looking for a singer to temporarily replace their sick soloist.Agneta went to audition, and she was gladly accepted into the group (they liked her so much that they accepted her for good. About where they shared the sick soloist the story is silent;))). The guys really liked her own things, they made arrangements for them and it started: Agneta became the soloist of the ensemble under the direction of Berntr Enghardt. The only problem was that there were only 24 hours in the day, of which she had about two hours of sleep. Therefore, from work in the automotive company she had to leave.
She has successfully performed with this group for several years. One day, Enghardt sent a band recording to Stockol, the recording company of Cupol. And - wow! - Karl-Gerhard Lundkvist (Karl-Gerhard Lundkvist), known as Lille Gerhard (Lille Gerhard), called from Aghnetu from Stockholm and told them that they would be happy to record it. Agneta first decided that the man was making fun, said “you are a fool, boatswain, and you are stupid jokes” and hung up. And threw her up until Lille Gerhard gave up in front of such firmness of character and did not offer her to call him back at such a number. After it turned out that he was all in all seriousness, Agneta tried to be indignant: only she was invited from the whole group, but it seemed to her unfair and it became insulting for her friends. However, after a certain number of admonitions from these very friends, Agnethe still signed the contract with the studio. For some time after that, she also performed with the ensemble, but soon the ensemble had to be abandoned and devoted herself entirely to solo work.
In 1969, Agneta went on tour to Germany, where she almost became the producer of her German album, but everything worked out;)
Returning to Sweden, Agneta was invited to the shooting of a TV show where Bjorn was hanging out. Actually, there they personally met ...
Bjorn Christian Ulvaeus (Björn Christian Ulvaeus) was born on April 25, 1945 in Gothenburg. Up to 11 years old, he was forced to be an exemplary boy and go to school because he did not have a guitar. And his parents gave him a guitar at 11 years old. Then he and his cousin immediately began to play everything: jazz, folk, and country music.
Successes in music he was very, very decent, but he was still (see above) an exemplary boy and at the insistence of his parents bravely went to gnaw the granite of the intelligent science of jurisprudence.
As a sin, the university turned out to be a few more talented young people, as a result of which the group The West Bay Singers was formed. The guys did not suffer from underestimating their talent; therefore, neither more nor less, they went to conquer Europe, hiring an old Volvo. Although their performances were not included in the annals of rock history, the guys earned a roof over their heads and bread, sometimes with butter.
Having returned safely to Sweden, in the fall of 1963, the guys took part in a national show, focused on the search for young talents. They did not win the competition, but Stig Anderson, a famous Swedish producer and businessman who later became the manager of ABBA, noticed them there. He quickly took the talented guys into circulation, renamed them The Hootenanny Singers, and then it was a success for them, the songs began to hit the charts, concerts caused the lively interest of the public, etc.
It was very difficult for Björn to combine his university studies and musical activities, and Stig popularly explained to him how far his musical career would go. Bjorn believed and scored on school.
On June 5, 1966, buses met at the crossroads of two roads, one of which was carrying The Hootenanny Singers, the other - Hep Stars ... So Bjorn met Benny. Bjorn invited Hep Stars to hang out after the concert, and then, as you guessed, Bjorn and Benny became friends.
It must also be noted that somehow Bjorn heard Agneta's song on the radio and grunted at her voice. He wondered if she was like her own voice, and soon he had the chance to find out: they were on the set of a TV show. Bjorn decided that Agneta herself was even better than her voice alone, and in view of the fact that Agneta had also long appreciated Bjorn’s talents and dreamed of meeting him
Anni-Frid Sinni Lingstad (Anni-Frid Synni Lyngstad) was born on November 15, 1945 in Narvik. Yes, yes - it is in Norway. Frida's mother fell in love with a German officer, who then merged on the orders of the authorities, and without having had time to rejoice at the news that his daughter was about to be born.
Frida's mother died when the child was 2 years old. About the Pope, news still has not been received (they arrived only in 1977). So the grandmother took on the challenge of educating a future star. The children of the German officers in Narvik did not complain, so grandma wisely reasoned that it would be better for them to move to a more calm and neutral Sweden, which they actually did.
Grandmother sewed and sang songs at the fireplace in the evening, and Frida went to school, listened to grandmother’s songs and dragged from them. In addition, once she suddenly realized that singing songs was even cooler than listening to them. And hit the show business.
She hit her at the age of 13.However, such small girls were not allowed into show business, so she lied to everyone that she was already 16 (and she didn’t have enough to see her passport or at least ask her to show her mind). At first she liked light pop songs, then she was drawn to more serious blues lyrics (with age this happens).
Frida sang with jazz bands for some time, and then decided that it would be nice to have her own band. So she did, without false modesty calling this group Anni-Frid Four. And she married the guitarist of the band. Just in case. And got two children. Then she appeared on television with her hit "En Ledig Dag". And then, with her husband, her views on the purpose of Frida differed dramatically: her husband wanted to put her at home with the children, and Frida wanted to find a worthy app for her talent. She was well aware that the best way to look for this application in Stockholm. She was just successfully invited to write the company EMI.
Since then, her career began to develop very successfully, only Frida missed her children very much, because for some time she had to live not with them - but what can you do, who is easy?
In 1969, at the party, Frida noticed Benny the second time.
Goran Bror Benny Andersson (Göran Bror Benny Andersson) was born on December 16, 1946 in a suburb of Stockholm.
The family was very musical, so Benny did not have time to be born, as he was immediately presented with an accordion. Dad and grandfather loved folklore, and this love (through genes) was transmitted to Benny.
When Benny was 10 years old, his parents decided that he was already quite grown up in order to give him a piano, which they did. Benny immediately began to peel wild improvisations on the piano. But he improvised, not using the wisdom of musical notation (because he did not teach it), and the limitations of school music teachers did not allow them to appreciate his talent.
At age 15, Benny dropped out of school and got a job as a traveling salesman. In the evenings, he played in the club next to his house. In this club, he met his first love - Christina Grönvall. They had two children - Peter (Peter Grönvall, 1963) and Helen (1965). However, they didn’t succeed in long love, in 1966 they separated (without being married).
In 1964, Benny joined the Hep Stars group. At that time, the existence of the group in Sweden was already known, and even called the Swedish “Beatles” (under which they diligently mowed), but popularity was not a fountain. In 1965, the Hep Stars were invited to perform on television with their song "Cadillac", where they, through their indecently destructive behavior, aroused the wild enthusiasm of the public. After that, the public remembered them and the group in Sweden became terribly popular.
In 1966, Benny wrote his first hit, Sunny Girl.
Inside the group there were often problems that the group members solved in all sorts of different ways, including fist fights. While everyone else, while solving these problems, shouted, argued, etc., Benny quietly went to the corner and loudly drummed on the piano there.
In the summer of 1966, he met Bjorn, who at the time was traveling with The Hootenanny Singers, and they had a friendship, on the basis of which there was ... cooperation. Benny even spoke about this: “I don’t have a brother, but Bjorn is like a brother to me. Nothing can make us change our friendship.” The guys began to fuck together.
In 1969, at the party, Benny from the second time was spotted by Frida.
While Agneta and Bjorn lived like all normal people, they didn’t stand out from their masses by their behavior (note behavior, not talent!), Frida and Benny tried to decide whether it’s more important to have a piano or a bed in an apartment. The fact is that the size of their first apartment was such that there, whatever one may say, was placed one thing. Frida refused to sleep on the piano categorically, so it was decided to place a bed in the apartment. But we must not forget that Benny was a musician to the bone, therefore the solution to the problem with the instrument was vital. And Benny found a way out: he began to torment the organ in the church (where his friend worked) and the piano of his friends.
In 1971, Agnetha and Bjorn went and got married (they chose a church for a long time). By that time, Benny had already become an ace in the organ game, so he gladly performed his compositions at the wedding of friends. Quiet wedding did not work, because there were about 3,000 friends, fans and reporters (I must say that all our heroes were already well known) and horses harnessed to the stroller of the bride and groom. The whole idea was beautiful, but it was not without incident: one of these horses trampled Agnete's leg. But they both managed to pretend that nothing happened.
1972 was marked by the fact that our friends finally guessed to unite in a group. At first, their full names were simply written on the plates, but their manager decided that it was somewhat long as the name of the group, and left only the first letters of the full names. So the word came ABA (with the same canned food has nothing in common).
The following year, the guys found themselves quite ready to conquer the Eurovision contest, to which they went with the song "Ring Ring". Frida had long-standing scores with this competition: she had not gotten to him with the song "Harlig Ar Var Jord" back in 1969. They passed the qualifying round, but have not yet taken Eurovision.
However, they did not calm down on this. And in 1974 they again went to conquer Eurovision, this time with the song "Waterloo". And conquered, as everyone knows.
Having become a group of world renown, they released 8 albums and a bunch of compilations and singles. In addition, Agneta and Bjorn got two kids (in 1973 and 1977, Linda and Christian respectively). But Frida and Benny didn’t have children, because, according to words attributed to Frida, it was enough for them to have four of them for two. But it was nevertheless necessary to do something, they got married in 1978.
The strict adherence to the facts requires mentioning the sad fact that our beautiful couples went their separate ways (Agneta and Bjorn in 1978 and Frida with Benny in 1981). Due to the sadness of this fact, we will not mention it more (later they all fell into the marriage networks again, forgetting that they don’t call marriage a good thing)
In 1982, our friends decided to work a little independently, that is, separately from each other. Thus, Agneta and Frida went somewhere (to act in films and record records), while Bjorn and Benny took on Tim Rice and the musical "Chess".
